APPROVED: Tigers-Diamondbacks Trade Lands 29 Home Run Slugger in Detroit

The MLB trade deadline season is heating up, and for teams like the Detroit Tigers — who are eyeing a deep postseason run — it’s a crucial chance to strengthen and fine-tune their roster. Detroit is enjoying an impressive season, led by four All-Star position players: Javy Baez, Riley Greene, Gleyber Torres, and the newly named Zach McKinstry. That’s not to mention Tarik Skubal, who’s currently leading the race for the AL Cy Young Award.

However, Detroit could still go all-in at the July 31st deadline for either a depth starting pitcher or a third baseman. Detroit is 59-35, almost surely going to win the American League Central, and has the best record in all of Major League Baseball.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are shaping up to be one of the most intriguing teams as the trade deadline approaches. They possess a wealth of valuable assets that would be highly appealing to contenders. The big question is whether they’re actually willing to part with players like Eugenio Suárez — and only if the return meets their expectations.

According to Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly, the Diamondbacks are likely to deal Suárez, predicting that he’ll end up with the Detroit Tigers. Such a move would help solidify the Tigers’ infield, particularly on the left side.

“The Arizona Diamondbacks are hovering around .500, and considering they entered the year with World Series aspirations, selling would be a tough pill to swallow. But sometimes you have to know it isn’t your year, and with Corbin Burnes lost to Tommy John surgery and Corbin Carroll recovering from a left wrist fracture, general manager Mike Hazen would be wise to capitalize on all the intriguing rentals on his roster. At the forefront of Arizona’s impending free agents is slugging third baseman Eugenio Suárez. He’s picked up right where he left off after a massive second half last year by hitting 29 home runs and posting an .883 OPS in the first half of 2025, en route to his second career All-Star Game selection,” writes Kelly.
