Cincinnati Reds’ star pitcher Hunter Greene has been sidelined since early June due to a groin strain.
On Wednesday, Greene pitched to five batters in a simulated game. Jim Day mentioned during Friday’s game against the Phillies that the plan is for Greene to throw a simulated bullpen session on Saturday and evaluate how he feels afterward.

“Felt good,” Greene told reporters. “I felt strong, feel like all my pitches were pretty solid today. Just had a lot of focus on trying to execute and get as game ready as possible.”
If everything goes smoothly, Greene could begin a rehab assignment next week.
The Reds plan to gradually ramp him up, so it seems like the earliest he could return to Cincinnati is around the All-Star break.
