As the 2025 MLB regular season began, the Philadelphia Phillies were aware that their starting pitching would be their biggest strength. Now, just past the halfway mark in early July, their rotation has lived up to expectations, with Zack Wheeler, Cristopher Sanchez, and Ranger Suarez forming the top trio in baseball.
There is great depth behind them with Jesus Luzardo, Mick Abel and Taijuan Walker all performing well at points.
The team is optimistic that veteran Aaron Nola will regain his form once he’s off the injured list. Additionally, their top prospect, Andrew Painter, is poised to make his much-anticipated MLB debut in the near future.
With all the talent and depth the Phillies have, it’s not entirely surprising that veteran Nabil Crismatt has chosen to seek an opportunity elsewhere. According to MLB insider Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the 30-year-old has utilized a release clause in his minor league contract, making him a free agent.

Without a clear route to the Major Leagues, Crismatt will be looking for an opportunity to showcase his talents elsewhere in the league.
In 15 starts with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, he holds a 4-5 record and a 3.81 ERA, having pitched 80.1 innings and recorded 54 strikeouts.
Although he has primarily started games in both the Phillies’ farm system and the Dominican Winter League this year, Crismatt has mostly been used out of the bullpen in the Major Leagues.
He has made 114 appearances in the MLB, only one of which was a start.
His production has been solid with a 3.71 ERA across 177 innings with 162 strikeouts, a 1.299 WHIP and 3.97 FIP.
Crismatt last appeared in a Major League game in 2024 with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
