Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona gave injury updates on two important players ahead of Thursday’s series finale against the Minnesota Twins.
Francona provided positive news on both players’ recoveries. He said that the MRI on Marte’s groin showed no major issues, and the infielder is set to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Friday. Marte has been on the injured list since May 7 due to a left oblique strain and has been performing well when healthy, batting .294 with eight extra-base hits in 19 games with the Reds this season.
Francona pregame Thursday:
* MRI on Noelvi Marte came back "good" and he's been cleared to start playing with Triple-A Louisville on rehab Friday.
* Austin Hays has started running bases. Francona says "feeling good". Hays said this morning he will wear a protective pad on left…— Mike Petraglia (@Trags) June 19, 2025
As for Hays, Francona mentioned that he’s begun running the bases and is feeling good. The outfielder will now wear a protective pad on his left foot moving forward. Hays has been sidelined since May 30 after fouling a ball off his foot during a game against the Kansas City Royals. Despite his injury woes, Hays has been one of the Reds’ most reliable hitters when available, posting a .303 batting average with six home runs in 31 games this season.
