Phillies Confirm to Replace Alec Bohm With Award-Winning Youngster

For the past year and a half, Alec Bohm’s future at third base has been uncertain for the Philadelphia Phillies. While it’s unclear if the team plans to promote a replacement from within, speculation continues to grow that a change could happen soon.

Baseball America has identified third base as the Phillies’ top area of need.

They project that with the 26th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, the Phillies will select a standout from Great Oaks High School in California.

“Like Schoolcraft, Fien has had an up-and-down spring that is causing some teams to scratch their heads. Fien was arguably the best performer in the high school class throughout the summer circuit, and at this point in the draft, has a strong case for the best hit/power combo available. He’s a right-right high schooler who might be a corner profile, but that was the case for Aidan Miller at the time, as well—that pick has worked out nicely for the Phillies so far,” they wrote.

Gavin Fien, who has committed to play at the University of Texas, earned recognition as a 2024 Perfect Game All-American. He’s currently rated as the top third baseman in the nation, the No. 1 player in Texas, and ranks ninth overall in the 2025 high school class.

Fien plays for the San Diego Show and impresses with his arm strength, throwing 94 mph from the infield and reaching 98 mph from the outfield.

His impressive skill set makes him an appealing first-round target for the Phillies.
