The Philadelphia Phillies are shifting star pitcher to the bullpen in an effort to shake things up amid a four-game losing skid and prevent their season from spiraling.
This move comes on the heels of fellow starter Jesús Luzardo surrendering 12 runs on Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers, triggering a series of roster adjustments.
Walker, currently in the third year of a \$72 million contract, last pitched on Friday—also against Milwaukee—allowing seven hits and four runs over four innings.
The 32-year-old has made 10 appearances this season, including eight starts, and holds a 2-4 record with a 3.53 ERA.

In a potentially tough pill to swallow, Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Walker will initially be used in one-inning relief roles—a significant shift for the veteran, who has spent most of his career as a starting pitcher.
Mick Abel will step into the starting rotation in place of Taijuan Walker, with his next outing scheduled for Thursday.
Abel, who was promoted to the majors last month, is set to make the reverse transition from Walker—moving from the bullpen to a starting role.
Despite recent struggles, the Phillies remain just one game behind the New York Mets for the top spot in the National League East and currently lead the Wild Card race.
However, after managing only two wins over the past week, the team is taking proactive measures to regain momentum.
Philadelphia still holds a three-game cushion over both the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants, who are currently tied for the final Wild Card berth.
