The UConn Huskies are dominating college basketball, with both the men’s and women’s teams enjoying recent championship success.
Geno Auriemma’s women’s team, powered by stars Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd, recently captured a national title.
On the men’s side, Dan Hurley has led the Huskies to two national championships in the past three seasons. Their bid for a three-peat ended with a second-round exit in the most recent NCAA Tournament.
Following the end of both teams’ seasons, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont commented on the state’s basketball achievements.
He announced that the XL Center, home to games for both Auriemma’s and Hurley’s squads, will undergo an official rebranding.

“After 17 years, the @XLCenter is getting a new name,” Lamont said. “We’ll be holding a news conference this afternoon to announce details of the change in naming rights for Connecticut’s largest indoor arena.”
Upon the release of the announcement, some fans took to social media, sharing their thoughts on the stadium announcement for the UConn Huskies.
“Don’t Care! It will always be The Hartford Civic Center,” said one fan.
“And you see this as a good thing?” said another fan.
“Fenway Franks Arena,” mentioned one fan.
“The Hartford Civic Center,” commented one fan.
“Knock it down and rebuild,” said one fan.
“Name may change but still a dump. Needs to be bulldozed and build new,” said another fan.
Dan Haar of CT Insider reports that the Hartford Civic Center arena has sold its naming rights in a deal valued at $2 million per year. While the new sponsor has not yet been revealed, changes to the venue’s branding are expected to take effect right away.
