The St. Louis Cardinals made several roster, with one notable decision being the release of veteran pitcher, who has spent five years in Major League Baseball, according to the team’s announcement.
“RHP Leonardo Taveras has been transferred from Springfield (AA) to Memphis (AAA),” the team announced. “RHP Nick Anderson (AAA) has been granted his unconditional release. LHP Brycen Mautz (AA) has been activated from the 7-day IL.”
Nick Anderson, who signed a minor league contract with the Cardinals in February, appeared in 17 games this season for their Triple-A affiliate, the Memphis Redbirds. During that stretch, he posted a 6.20 ERA with 20 strikeouts and 8 walks over 20 1/3 innings.

Originally selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 32nd round of the 2012 MLB Draft, Anderson made his major league debut in 2019, appearing in 68 games between the Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays. Over parts of five MLB seasons, he has played for the Marlins, Rays, Atlanta Braves, and Kansas City Royals. Despite being with the Cardinals organization, he never made an appearance at the major league level for the team.
Taveras is a 26-year-old prospect who has appeared in 10 games overall this season with the Double-A Springfield Cardinals and Triple-A Memphis Redbirds. He has logged a 9.00 ERA so far this season.
The Cardinals had a busy day Saturday before the action even kicked off with the Texas Rangers.
