SDSU Jackrabbits confirm big news

On May 21, the Summit League announced its Outdoor Track and Field All-League selections, with South Dakota State University placing 26 athletes on the list—16 men and 10 women. Additionally, 10 Jackrabbits are set to compete at the NCAA West First Round in College Station, Texas, this week.

Men’s Qualifiers:

Cody Larson, Grayson Ring, Pierre Lear, Caiden Fredrick, Ethan Fischer, and Cayman Gebheim will represent the men’s team at regionals.

Larson is SDSU’s only dual-event qualifier, securing spots in both the 3000-meter steeplechase and the 5000 meters. Ranked sixth in the West and 12th nationally with a steeplechase time of 8:30.96, Larson will focus solely on that event due to schedule conflicts.

Grayson Ring, in his first Division I season after transferring from Division III, earned his regional bid in the high jump with a leap of 7-01.00 (2.16m) at the USD Twilight, tying the school record and placing 17th regionally.

Senior Pierre Lear returns to College Station for his final collegiate appearance, qualifying in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.57—currently tied for 21st in the region.

Discus throwers Caiden Fredrick, Ethan Fischer, and freshman Cayman Gebheim round out the men’s qualifiers. Fredrick holds the SDSU record at 187-00 (57.00m), ranking 31st regionally. Fischer is close behind at 186-03 (56.78m), 36th in the region. Gebheim squeezed into the field with a mark of 183-02 (55.82m), placing 49th and earning his spot due to scratches in the event.

Women’s Qualifiers:

Jessica Lutmer, Courtney Stadter, Brielle Dixon, and Madison Kizer will represent the women’s squad.

Lutmer and freshman Stadter both earned spots in the 10,000-meter run, clocking times of 34:00.53 and 34:12.94, respectively, at the Stanford Invitational. Lutmer is ranked 46th in the West, while Stadter, sitting at 50th, qualified due to scratches—an impressive finish to her debut season.

Brielle Dixon returns to the regional stage in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.44, placing her 38th regionally.

Madison Kizer is the only SDSU female field athlete heading to regionals. She qualified in the high jump with a school record of 5-10.75 (1.80m), ranking 23rd in the region. This will be her second appearance at College Station.
