MAJOR BREAKING: 5-Star Talented star Flipped his commitment from Oregon Ducks to Texas Longhorns

The Oregon Ducks may be facing a major recruiting setback, which could turn into a big win for the Texas Longhorns.

According to On3’s Chad Simmons, five-star edge rusher  has decommitted from Oregon, just weeks after announcing his pledge on May 10. Wesley is now set to take an official visit to Texas on June 20, giving the Longhorns an opportunity to bring him into their 2026 class.

The rusher, who plays for Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, California, is ranked as the No. 2 edge rusher and No. 3 overall player in California by the 247Sports Composite. Although a recommitment to Oregon is still possible, signs point to him exploring other top programs. He’s also scheduled to visit Ohio State when the Buckeyes open their season against Texas on August 30.

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning walks off the field as the Oregon Ducks face the Ohio State Buckeyes Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, in the quarterfinal of the College Football Playoff at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

After his initial commitment, Wesley’s father, Johnathan Wesley, told Rivals that the family hadn’t finalized all aspects of the Oregon decision. “We don’t have anything set in stone,” he said, emphasizing that Richard was still considering other programs and had not closed the door on recruitment.

Should Wesley ultimately choose Texas, he’d join a strong 2026 recruiting class that already includes five-star recruits like quarterback Dia Bell, athlete Jermaine Bishop Jr., and long snapper Trott O’Neal, along with three-star prospects such as wide receiver Chris Stewart, cornerback Hayward Howard Jr., offensive tackle Max Wright, and offensive lineman Nicolas Robertson.

National recruiting analyst Greg Biggins of 247Sports praised Wesley’s all-around ability, noting his explosiveness off the edge, strong hands, and physicality. “He has the size, athleticism, motor, and work ethic to be one of the top players out West,” Biggins wrote.
