HUGE BLOW: Ohio State Football Is beaten out by an SEC juggernaut On Impactful Recruit

The Ohio State Buckeyes are one of the top programs in college football. While they’re well known for producing elite wide receivers and cornerbacks, they’ve also sent several defensive linemen to the NFL.

Columbus has become a strong development hub for linemen, but that wasn’t enough to keep Jamir Perez in-state. The Ohio native recently committed to the University of Florida, making the loss sting a bit more for Buckeye fans.

Perez isn’t a top-tier recruit—he’s a three-star prospect and ranked 26th in Ohio for the 2026 class. Still, he received an offer from Ohio State. In 247Sports’ composite rankings, he sits as the 104th-best defensive lineman, having dropped from 77th in their individual ranking.

Hayes Fawcett broke the news that Perez, a Cleveland product, is headed to Gainesville. He’s a physically imposing lineman who could eventually become a key player for the Gators.

Larry Johnson served as the lead recruiter for Perez. With Ohio State not landing many defensive linemen in the 2026 cycle so far, his decision marks a notable miss for a program known for securing in-state talent.

Despite this, the Buckeyes still boast one of the top incoming classes. Chris Henry Jr. headlines their 2026 recruits, joined by impact players like Blaine Bradford and Kayden Dixon-Wyatt.

Fresh off a national championship, Ohio State remains a top destination for elite prospects. With many of the top 30 recruits still undecided, they have a chance to land high-profile names—like five-star safety Bralan Womack—soon. He’s a prospect worth watching as decisions unfold.
