Pittsburgh Panthers land commitment for talented guard to bolster depth

The Pitt basketball program made an unexpected move securing a commitment from  a three-star point guard in the class of 2025. He stands at 6-3 and 200 pounds and hails from Huron High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Moore was previously committed to Iowa State for a year but chose to back out in March. He also received an offer from Louisville, along with several programs from the MAC, during his recruitment process.

Once his decision became public, Pitt formally announced the addition of Moore through a press release.

“Macari is a fierce competitor who has displayed strong leadership qualities throughout his high school and AAU career,” said Pitt head coach Jeff Capel. “He’s an aggressive player on both sides of the court, known for his work ethic. His strength lies in attacking the basket, creating plays for himself and his teammates, but he’s also proven to be a capable shooter from beyond the arc. He will complement the backcourt we’re building at Pitt, and we’re excited to see his growth in our program.”

During his senior season at Huron High, Moore led his team to a 22-5 record. He was named to the Michigan Sports Writers Division 1 All-State team and was a finalist for Mr. Basketball. In the 2024-25 season, Moore averaged 19 points, six assists, and six rebounds per game.

Moore becomes the fourth member of Pitt’s 2025 recruiting class, joining four-star shooting guard Omari Witherspoon, as well as international prospects Henry Lau and Kieran Mullen.

Overall, Moore is the eighth new player to join Pitt this offseason. Head coach Jeff Capel and his staff also secured four players from the transfer portal in addition to the four high school recruits.

As of now, the Panthers have 12 scholarship players lined up for the 2025-26 season. Returning players from last year include Papa Amado Kante, Cam Corhen, Brandin Cummings, and Amdy Ndayie, who will help anchor a roster mostly made up of new faces.

Pitt is still in pursuit of a few more 2025 recruits and is keeping an eye on the transfer portal, but the roster is nearly set with only one or two spots left to fill before next season begins.
