The Milwaukee Brewers have had a rocky start to the 2025 season, but it’s far too early to write them off.
Currently holding a 21-23 record after Wednesday’s win against the Cleveland Guardians, the Brewers have seen too many of their key offensive players underperform. If their top hitters can turn things around, the team could quickly re-enter the playoff conversation.
That said, one position remains a major concern: shortstop. Joey Ortiz, in his second MLB season, has struggled to adapt after moving from third base. If his performance doesn’t improve by the trade deadline and the Brewers are still in the postseason hunt, they may need to explore external options for an offensive boost at that spot.
On Wednesday, Dave Gasper of Athlon suggested that Milwaukee could target Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette as a potential trade deadline acquisition.

“Bichette would be a dream addition to the Brewers’ lineup, but that possibility might not open up until later,” Gasper wrote. “The Blue Jays are trying to compete in Bichette’s final year, and with Vlad Guerrero Jr. already extended, they won’t move Bichette unless their season falls apart.” Bichette, 27, has started to regain his power at the plate recently, hitting three home runs in the past week and lifting his OPS+ to 107. After a disappointing 82-game stretch in 2024, he’s aiming to rebuild his value heading into free agency. Acquiring Bichette would require several factors to align, but with Ortiz currently posting a .462 OPS, a significant upgrade at shortstop may be essential for the Brewers’ playoff hopes.
