BREAKING: Another highly rated super talent transfer to UVA

Virginia Football has been active in the transfer portal this offseason, especially in the secondary. This morning, they bolstered their defensive backfield by adding talented transfer. He posted 15 tackles, two interceptions, and four pass breakups last season, announced he would be joining the Cavaliers’ program.

Platt is a seasoned cornerback who should seamlessly fit into Tony Elliott’s program. Last season, according to Pro Football Focus (PFF), he earned an overall grade of 64.0 across 521 snaps, including a 67.3 in coverage. However, his tackling and run defense grades raised some concerns. PFF gave him a low 28.2 tackling grade and a 45.2 run defense grade. That said, there’s hope that this isn’t a long-term issue, as in the previous two years, Platt posted much stronger tackling grades—81.9 in one season and 69.3 in the other. After playing the most snaps of his career last year, Platt will look to build on that experience and continue his development with the Cavaliers this fall.

Virginia made significant strides in bolstering their defense earlier this month, landing two standout defensive backs. First, Emmanuel Karnley transferred from Miami after a short stint with the Hurricanes and is looking to strengthen Virginia’s secondary. A four-star recruit according to 247Sports, Karnley is expected to make an immediate impact.

But Karnley wasn’t the only key addition to Virginia’s defensive backfield. The Cavaliers also secured Da’Marcus Crosby, a safety from New Mexico State. As Aidan Baller highlighted, Crosby has had an impressive college journey. The 6’2″ safety from Houston began his career at Kilgore College in Texas, where he earned All-American honors after racking up 75 tackles, three interceptions, and three forced fumbles. He also had a standout moment with a pick-six in a 51-14 victory over Blinn College.

After two seasons at Kilgore, Crosby transferred to Sam Houston State, where he helped the Bearkats in their inaugural FBS season. There, he earned All-Conference USA First Team honors with 55 tackles, three pass breakups, and four interceptions, including a crucial 10-tackle, one-interception performance against Kennesaw State that earned him CUSA Defensive Player of the Week.

Virginia has been active in the transfer portal across multiple positions, bringing in key players like quarterback Chandler Morris, highly regarded wide receiver Jahmal Edrine from Purdue, and defensive lineman Hunter Osborne from Alabama. With the portal now closed, the Cavaliers have assembled one of the most promising classes in the ACC.
