Top talented guard has officially decommitted from Iowa basketball, as he confirmed to the Register on May 12.
Despite the decommitment, Shabazz mentioned he is still considering the Hawkeyes as a potential option in his recruitment.
The in-state prospect originally committed to Iowa under head coach Fran McCaffery in September. However, following the 2024-25 season, Iowa decided to part ways with McCaffery, leading to significant changes within the men’s basketball program. As a result, Shabazz has now decided to decommit from the Hawkeyes.
Three-star prospect Navon Shabazz, who currently attends Iowa United Prep in Des Moines, is ranked 196th nationally in the 2026 high school recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite. Standing at 6-foot-3, Shabazz is also the third-best prospect in Iowa’s 2026 class.

Shabazz transferred to Iowa United Prep after spending one season at Assumption High School in Davenport, where he helped lead the team to a Class 3A state championship as a sophomore.
When he originally committed to Iowa, Shabazz had already received power-conference offers from programs like Wake Forest, Iowa State, and the Hawkeyes. He had reported the Iowa offer in February 2024, along with interest from several non-power conference Division I schools.
Now, with his decommitment, Shabazz has reopened his recruitment, and Iowa is currently without any commitments in the 2026 class.
