Another former West Virginia Mountaineer defender has found a new team. Pass rusher revealed his commitment to Coastal Carolina, officially transferring out of the WVU program.
Onwuka was a highly sought-after recruit from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and received offers from several prominent programs, including Boston College, James Madison, Kent State, Marshall, Penn State, Temple, Toledo, USC, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, and more.

Although he didn’t see any game action last season, Onwuka reportedly made strides in his development, according to the previous coaching staff. The expectation was that he would have worked his way into the pass-rushing rotation this fall if Neal Brown and his staff had remained in Morgantown, with a solid opportunity to earn significant playing time in 2026.
After the coaching change, Onwuka initially told West Virginia On SI that he planned to enter the transfer portal, but ultimately decided to stay for spring ball. Following the spring practice, he met with the new coaching staff and determined that moving on was the best decision for his future.
Onwuka will have all four years of eligibility remaining at Coastal Carolina.
