The St. Louis Cardinals secured their fifth consecutive win on Wednesday, though not without a bit of tension and speculation beforehand.
As they wrapped up their three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Cardinals were without third baseman Nolan Arenado, who was pulled from the lineup just before the game. His sudden absence sparked rumors on social media about a potential trade, but the real reason was less dramatic—he was sidelined due to back spasms.
According to MLB.com’s John Denton, Nolan Arenado is currently considered “day-to-day.”
Denton reported that the star third baseman was removed from the starting lineup just minutes before the Cardinals’ series finale against the Pirates began on Wednesday. Nolan Gorman stepped in for Arenado and made an immediate impact, reaching base in his first two at-bats with a walk and a single to right field.

“Arenado, 34, is listed as day to day, and he is still expected to travel with the Cardinals on their upcoming nine-game road trip through Washington, Philadelphia, and Kansas City. The Cardinals are off on Thursday and face the Nats in the nation’s capital on Friday.”
The plan for him to travel with the team is a positive indication. The Cardinals have Thursday off and will start a road series against the Washington Nationals on Friday night.
