South Carolina baseball coach Paul Mainieri has emphasized the importance of adding more power hitters to the team for next season. On Wednesday night, the Gamecocks landed one such player with local roots.
Patrick Evans, a former Lexington High School star, has committed to South Carolina. Currently a sophomore at Florence-Darlington Tech, Evans will have two years of eligibility remaining. He’s having a standout season with the Stingers, who captured both the Region 10 regular season and tournament titles.

Florence-Darlington will host the East District Championship from May 9–11, with the winner advancing to the Division I JUCO World Series. Evans, an infielder, was named Region 10 Player of the Year after batting .462 with 10 home runs, 68 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases.
His offensive firepower could help boost USC’s home run production, as the team currently ranks 12th out of 16 in the conference with 47 homers. With Evans on board, the Gamecocks now have 11 commitments for the Class of 2025, including five from junior colleges—a number expected to rise as activity continues in the transfer portal.
