Huge boost: Pitt Panthers land massive commitment to bolster depth

The Pittsburgh Panthers men’s basketball team is keeping busy this offseason.

While many programs, and their fans, are focused on the transfer portal, the Panthers have been active there too. However, they’ve also made two significant international prep additions for their Class of 2025-26.

Earlier this week, Pitt secured a commitment from 7-foot Canadian center Kieran Mullen. A native of Vancouver, Mullen spent a post-grad year at St. Thomas More School in Connecticut.

Then, late Friday night, the Panthers followed up by landing a commitment from Australian forward. The 18-year-old announced his decision on X just before midnight EST.

Pitt grabs a commitment from Australian prospect Henry Lau

Lau, a 6-foot-8 wing from Sydney, Australia, had an impressive 2023-24 season. He was named Sydney’s Player of the Year after putting up averages of 28 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists, and 6 blocks per game.

At the under-20 Australian National Championships, Lau shot 52% from the field and 33% from beyond the arc, averaging 15 points per game. He also spent a year with the Sydney Kings in the National Basketball League as a developmental player.

Despite some criticism of Pitt’s losses via the transfer portal following a season where they missed the NCAA tournament for the seventh time in eight years, the team is still making strides with key additions like Lau.
