The Connecticut Huskies claimed their 12th national championship following the women’s NCAA Tournament, marking their first title since 2016, the same year Paige Bueckers wrapped up her career with the team.
Under the legendary guidance of head coach Geno Auriemma, UConn women’s basketball has cemented its reputation as the most successful and prestigious program in college basketball.
Auriemma has been the cornerstone of every one of the Huskies’ championships, pushing them to the top with the most titles in Division I history, surpassing the previous record of 11 championships held by UCLA men’s basketball.
As the offseason continues, UConn is focused on strengthening its roster, with key returners like Sarah Strong and Azzi Fudd, who were pivotal in the team’s championship victory, expected to play significant roles.
Recently, Auriemma and the Huskies made a major move by securing a commitment from transfer. Auriemma expressed excitement over the addition, which promises a bright future for the program as they aim for continued success.

“I believe that Serah was one of the top players in the country, not only this past year, but in her career at Wisconsin,” Auriemma said. “We’re absolutely thrilled to have her coming to Connecticut. She’s a great addition to our program. Her experience, her versatility and her ability to play at a really high level on both ends of the floor are going to be a great asset for us. I think as a person, she fits in perfectly with our team.”
Williams has one year of college eligibility left and transfers to UConn from Wisconsin, where she played under former UConn assistant coach Marisa Moseley.
At Wisconsin, Williams made a name for herself as one of the top players in college basketball, accumulating 36 career double-doubles, 1,494 points, 782 rebounds, and 211 blocks.
She is a two-time All-Big Ten First Team and Big Ten All-Defensive Team honoree. Last season, she averaged 19.2 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, showcasing her all-around game and dominance on both ends of the floor.
“When I first stepped on campus at UConn and met the players and staff, it felt like the right place for me to spend my last year in college both on and off the court,” Williams said. “The winning environment and atmosphere were everything I was looking for.”
