After sustaining a recent oblique injury, Yankees sparkplug Jazz Chisholm Jr. is expected to be out for a minimum of 4–6 weeks, manager Aaron Boone confirmed. That timeline doesn’t account for any potential rehab games, meaning his absence could stretch even longer.
Despite a slow start to the season with a .181 batting average, Chisholm remains a crucial piece of the Yankees’ offense, especially with Giancarlo Stanton still recovering. He’s contributed both power and speed, recording seven home runs and six stolen bases so far.

Chisholm, a six-year MLB veteran previously with the Miami Marlins, was acquired by the Yankees at last year’s trade deadline. He holds a career batting average of .245 and hit a personal-best 24 home runs last season, 11 of which came after joining New York. He played a key role in the team’s run to the World Series, where they fell to the Dodgers in five games.
An All-Star in 2022 with Miami, the 27-year-old provides valuable depth behind Aaron Judge, who is once again playing at an MVP-caliber level.
The Yankees kick off a home series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. ET. Lefty Max Fried, who has impressed with a 5-0 record and 1.19 ERA since joining New York, will get the start. He’ll face Tampa Bay right-hander Ryan Pepiot, who enters the matchup 2-3 with a 4.24 ERA.
