Virginia Tech Hokies land massive commitment to bolster depth

Virginia Tech basketball coach Mike Young is steadily building his 2025–26 roster. On Wednesday, the Hokies secured another  commitment to bolster depth.

A 6-foot-4 guard from Hutto, Texas, began his college basketball journey at Trinidad State Junior College in Colorado. Over two seasons there, he posted impressive numbers, averaging 16.6 points per game while shooting 46% from the field. In 2023, Bedford moved up to the Division I level by transferring to Oral Roberts, where he started all 31 games and ranked second on the team in scoring with 14.6 points per game, along with 6.4 rebounds.

He later joined UNLV, where he played in 33 games last season, starting eight. Bedford averaged 10.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest, proving to be a strong contributor off the bench with a noticeable uptick in performance as the season progressed.

Mike Young released the following statement on Bedford’s signing:

“We’re thrilled to have Jailen join the Hokies,” said Young. ”His journey to this point has shaped him into a resilient and dynamic player. Jailen really came on strong toward the end of the season for UNLV. We believe his skillset and leadership will be invaluable to us this upcoming season.”

Bedford is the third transfer to sign with the Hokies, following forward Amani Hansberry (West Virginia) and guard Izaiah Pasha (Delaware). Bedford could start alongside Pasha in the backcourt or serve as Virginia Tech’s sixth man next season, giving them an experienced scorer off the bench.

Young still has a few roster spots to play with before next season.

Welcome home, Jailen.
