The Edmonton Oilers have secured a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the sixth straight year, finishing third in the Pacific Division with 101 points.
A key contributor to their sustained success is Leon Draisaitl. The third overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft posted 106 points this season—his sixth career 100-point campaign. He also led the league in goals with 52, reaching the 50-goal milestone for the fourth time in his career.
Draisaitl remains one of the elite players in the game, and his remarkable season has earned him recognition. On Thursday, the NHL announced that he is one of three finalists for the 2024–25 Hart Memorial Trophy.

“Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl has been named a finalist for the 2024–25 Hart Memorial Trophy,” the league stated in a press release.
He is joined by Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck and Tampa Bay Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov in the running for the award, which honors the NHL’s most valuable player, as voted by the Professional Hockey Writers Association.
The Oilers showed their excitement online, posting:
“🗣️MVP‼️ 🗣️MVP‼️ 🗣️MVP‼️”
This is Draisaitl’s second time being nominated for the Hart Trophy. He first received the honor in 2020, the same year he won it. The winner will be announced during the NHL Awards in June.
Currently in his 11th NHL season, Draisaitl has tallied 399 goals and 557 assists, bringing his career point total to 956—just 44 away from the 1,000-point milestone.
