The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team has made a major addition to its roster.
Highly regarded transfer has revealed she will join the Huskies for her senior season, announcing the news on her social media earlier this week. Williams, who played her first three collegiate seasons at Wisconsin, chose UConn over other top programs including LSU and North Carolina, according to ESPN’s Kendra Andrews.
“Genesis 28:15. Yes. I’ll stay with you, I’ll protect you wherever you go,” Williams said in her post, referencing the first book of the Holy Bible. “Go Huskiess [sic].”

The UConn Huskies have made a significant move in the transfer portal, securing Wisconsin standout Serah Williams for the 2024–25 season. While UConn has largely remained on the sidelines during the portal’s early activity, the addition of Williams gives the reigning national champions another high-impact piece as they look to repeat.
Williams, who spent three seasons with the Wisconsin Badgers, was a rare bright spot for a program that hasn’t reached the NCAA Tournament since 2002. During the 2023–24 season, she averaged a double-double with 17.4 points and 10.7 rebounds per game, while leading the Big Ten in blocks for the second straight year with 84. Her performance helped propel Wisconsin to the regional semifinals of the WNIT—the program’s first postseason appearance in 13 years.
Her efforts earned her co-Defensive Player of the Year honors in the Big Ten, sharing the award with Ohio State’s Celeste Taylor. She was also named to the All-Big Ten First Team and the conference’s All-Defensive Team. Williams nearly repeated her double-double average last season, posting a career-high 19.2 points per game along with 9.8 rebounds.
With her arrival, UConn adds further depth and experience to an already formidable frontcourt. Williams joins a lineup expected to return starters Jana El Alfy and Sarah Strong, both instrumental in UConn’s recent title run. The Huskies also bring back promising forwards Ice Brady and Ayanna Patterson, who is recovering from injury, setting the stage for a competitive and versatile frontcourt rotation.
Williams chose UConn over high-profile programs including LSU and North Carolina, signaling the Huskies’ continued dominance in attracting top-tier talent.
