Another former Newton County football star is now chasing his NFL dreams.
After the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft this past weekend, Robert Lewis, a standout from Newton High School, signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent. He was one of 19 undrafted players the team picked up on Saturday evening.
Lewis was known for his electrifying play during his four years at Newton High, with his senior year being particularly impressive—he racked up 563 receiving yards, 30 catches, and seven touchdowns.
His high school performance earned him a spot at Georgia State University, where he continued to shine. During his redshirt junior season, Lewis tallied 70 receptions for 877 yards and seven scores.

For his final year of college eligibility, Lewis transferred to Auburn. However, his time there didn’t go as planned; buried on the depth chart, he ended the season with just 16 catches for 155 yards.
Now, Lewis enters a competitive wide receiver group in Minnesota, featuring established names like Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. The Vikings also drafted Maryland receiver Tai Felton in the fourth round this year.
Lewis will aim to make an impression during offseason workouts and earn a place either on the Vikings’ main roster or the practice squad.
