Hubert Davis is entering his fifth season as head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels, and while his 101-45 record is impressive, the pressure is mounting for him to deliver more success at the helm of one of college basketball’s most prestigious programs.
After leading North Carolina to the NCAA Tournament championship game in his first season, Davis has yet to take the Tar Heels back to the Final Four. For a program with 21 Final Four appearances and lofty expectations, this absence is beginning to feel like a significant drought.
This spring has seen notable changes for Davis and his coaching staff. Several players have moved on, but new talent continues to be added to the roster. The latest addition is especially thrilling.
On Friday, Jaydon Young announced his commitment to North Carolina, a move that promises to strengthen the team as they head into the 2025-26 season and energize a fan base eager to see the Tar Heels return to national relevance.

Seth Trimble, who will return to the Tar Heels for his fourth season of college basketball, sent a message in response: “Oh I ain’t expect this one let’s get it brudda💰!!”
Trimble averaged 11.6 points per game for the Tar Heels last season and is a strong free-throw shooter, making him a key player in late-game situations for Davis.
In North Carolina’s 95-68 win over San Diego State in the NCAA Tournament First Four, Trimble contributed 16 points off the bench. He scored in double figures 24 times across 34 games last season.
Trimble’s new teammate, Jaydon Young, is someone he’s already familiar with. Young played 58 games over two seasons at Virginia Tech, also in the ACC, and faced the Tar Heels in a March matchup. In that game, which North Carolina won 91-59, Young scored 12 points in 31 minutes. For the season, he averaged 8.1 points per game.
The 6-foot-4 guard from Goldsboro, North Carolina, made 10 starts for the Hokies and brings valuable experience and a solid understanding of conference play to Chapel Hill.
