Florida transfer forward Sam Alexis has committed to the Indiana Hoosiers, per a report by Joe Tipton of On3.
Alexis, who entered the NCAA transfer portal on April 18, played in 24 games for the Gators during their national title-winning season. He contributed off the bench, averaging 4.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
A native of Apopka, Alexis saw limited minutes under Todd Golden due to Florida’s deep frontcourt, though he showed glimpses of promise when given opportunities.
Before transferring to Florida, Alexis played two seasons at Chattanooga, where he amassed 516 points and 287 rebounds.
Injuries also impacted his time with the Gators, as an ankle issue sidelined him for about six weeks from February to March. His final appearance came with a brief stint against Maryland in the Sweet 16.
Now at Indiana, Alexis hopes to take on a bigger role under new head coach Darian DeVries. His strengths on defense and the boards could mesh well with the Hoosiers’ physical Big Ten style.
Meanwhile, Florida is continuing to retool after its championship run, recently welcoming back forward Thomas Haugh and adding new talent via the portal and recruiting. Alexis’ exit frees up a roster spot as Coach Golden prepares for a title defense.
