Across the first two days, their strategy leaned heavily on prospects they’d previously met with, making some selections, like quarterback Tyler Shough, feel expected due to pre-draft buzz.
However, their first Day 3 pick came as more of a surprise, largely because there was no public indication the team had met with him. Still, the player’s college production speaks volumes. Over four seasons, he topped 100 tackles three times, including a standout 2022 season with 125. In 2024, despite a slight statistical dip, he still racked up 109 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, and a sack in 12 games—highlighting both consistency and playmaking ability.
Athletically, he fits the Saints’ mold perfectly. With a 9.61 Relative Athletic Score, 4.52-second 40-yard dash, and an elite 1.56-second 10-yard split, he brings rare speed and explosiveness for a linebacker. At 6’3” and 233 pounds with 32-inch arms, he has the size and tools to be a long-term NFL starter.
All things considered, Stutsman checks every box: production, athleticism, and upside. This pick stands out as one of the Saints’ smartest and most promising moves of the draft.
