Gonzaga Bulldogs confirm unfortunate news that leaves fans devastated

The Gonzaga Bulldogs have long been a dominant force in men’s college basketball, securing spots in the NCAA Tournament 25 times over the last 26 seasons, including five consecutive appearances under head coach Mark Few.

This past season, Gonzaga reached the second round of March Madness but was narrowly defeated by the Houston Cougars, 81-76. Since then, wing Michael Ajayi and guard Dusty Stromer entered the transfer portal, though neither departure was considered particularly significant.

However, just before the transfer portal closed on Tuesday night, Gonzaga also lost forward Ben Gregg, a key contributor to their rotation, who has now entered the portal as a grad transfer. He will need to be granted eligibility by the NCAA.

The 6’10” forward started 29 of the 35 games he played for the Bulldogs, averaging 9.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. Although his 3-point shooting dropped from 37.7% in the 2023-24 season to 27.1% this past year, he still posted a career-high 57.1% field goal percentage.

The Oregon native has spent all five of his college seasons at Gonzaga, and for him to play at another school this fall, the NCAA will need to grant him eligibility for an additional year.

Standing at 6-foot-10, Gregg is a difficult matchup when his outside shot is on target. Over his time with the Bulldogs, he has also made noticeable improvements in his free-throw shooting.
