Colorado’s head coach Deion Sanders made it clear concerning No. 1 transfer portal running back

After Colorado’s spring game, head coach Deion Sanders made it clear he’s looking to bolster the roster—particularly by bringing in at least two more running backs through the transfer portal.

The Buffaloes are making a major move in that direction by hosting former Cal running back Jaivian Thomas on Tuesday and Wednesday, as reported by On3Sports.

Thomas led the Golden Bears in rushing last season while sharing backfield duties with now-Oklahoma back Jaydn Ott. The Oakland native racked up 626 yards and seven touchdowns on 100 carries during his sophomore year.

Known for his explosiveness, Thomas accounted for four of Cal’s five longest runs and added a 56-yard touchdown reception. In his only start of the season, he torched San Diego State for 169 yards on just 17 carries.

Landing Thomas would be a big win for Colorado, especially after losing last season’s top rusher, Isaiah Augustave, to Virginia. The Buffaloes struggled on the ground in 2024, averaging only 2.5 yards per carry and failing to surpass 1,000 total rushing yards.

Dallan Hayden impressed in the spring game, leading all Buffaloes with 29 yards on just four carries, but the team still needs more firepower in the backfield.

If Coach Prime is looking to add a dynamic playmaker, Thomas—widely seen as the top running back currently in the transfer portal—might be the perfect fit.
