New England Patriots receive big news regarding star WR

The New England Patriots still have a void at wide receiver, despite signing Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins in free agency.

Diggs remains a big question mark due to his recovery from a torn ACL at 31 years old, while Hollins is more of a complementary piece at best.

As a result, the Patriots are expected to draft a wide receiver at some point, whether it’s grabbing Travis Hunter with the fourth overall pick or potentially finding someone on Day 2.

But could New England still pull off a major trade for a star receiver to help Drake Maye’s development?

In a recent mailbag with Brian Hines from Pats Pulpit, a reader proposed just that: sending the No. 4 pick to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for picks 9 and 71, along with wide receiver Chris Olave.

“We got a trade! I’d say fair value for No. 4 overall if the Saints do have interest in moving up, but taking on Olave is a risk with his concussion history (even though I do love the player),” Hines wrote.

Olave dealt with two concussions in 2024, bringing his total to five concussions since his time at Ohio State, which raises some concerns and makes it harder to predict his long-term future in the NFL.

When he’s healthy, there’s no doubt Olave is an exceptional receiver. He showed that with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2022 and 2023, including 87 catches for 1,123 yards and five touchdowns in the latter year.

However, the 24-year-old was sidelined for eight games last season, and with his contract extension looming, it creates some uncertainty for New England.
