Boston Red Sox confirm big news regarding pitcher

The Boston Red Sox are set to welcome back a key reinforcement.

Boston signed Liam Hendriks ahead of the 2024 season, but he has yet to make his debut with the team. His return has been a lengthy journey since his last MLB appearance on June 9, 2023, while playing for the Chicago White Sox.

He fought cancer prior to that and made his comeback just in time to face an elbow injury, which required Tommy John surgery, sidelining him for the 2024 season—at least at the major league level. Although he made a few rehab appearances towards the end of the season, the Red Sox were already out of playoff contention, so they didn’t rush his return.

It’s been disappointing that he hasn’t yet debuted with the Red Sox, especially since he’s clearly put in a lot of effort to come back, but according to MLB.com’s Ian Browne, that debut could happen as soon as Saturday.

“Alex Cora says there is a ‘good chance’ Liam Hendriks will be activated for Saturday’s game,” Browne shared.

As of now, the team hasn’t confirmed whether the move will actually happen, but just imagine the significance if it does! Hendriks hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2023, and the possibility of him returning to the mound at Fenway Park wearing a Boston jersey—against his former team, no less—would be a massive moment.

It’d be incredible to see, as long as there are no setbacks, and we can only hope he’s able to make that return.
