After spending one season with the Cougars, Washington State quarterback plans to enter the transfer portal on Wednesday, April 16, when it officially opens.
“My time as a Washington State Coug will always hold a special place in my heart,” Najm said in a statement posted to X on Sunday afternoon. “After a lot of thought, prayer, and conversations with my family, I have decided that I will be entering the transfer portal with four years of eligibility left.”

Hunter Najm, who redshirted during the 2024 season and didn’t appear in a game for Washington State, will enter the transfer portal when it opens on Wednesday, April 16. A member of WSU’s 2024 recruiting class, Najm came from Aliso Niguel High School in Aliso Viejo, California. As a senior, the 5-foot-11, 191-pound quarterback threw for 1,548 yards with 13 touchdowns and five interceptions, while also rushing for 333 yards and eight scores.
Najm’s departure comes as part of a broader quarterback exodus from WSU. Starting QB John Mateer recently transferred to Oklahoma alongside offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle. Backup quarterbacks Brady McKelheer and Evans Chuba also left the program earlier in the cycle. The current transfer window closes on April 25.
