After a first-round exit from the 2025 NCAA Tournament, Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels have seen significant turnover on their roster.
All-American guard RJ Davis wrapped up his senior year and is likely heading to the pros. Starting guard Elliot Cadeau transferred to Michigan, and key backups Ian Jackson and Jalen Washington also hit the portal, with Washington landing at Vanderbilt.
Coach Davis has worked to plug some of the gaps by bringing in three transfers, but the roster shuffle continued on Friday. According to On3’s Pete Nakos, forward Cade Tyson has now entered the transfer portal. Tyson, a former Belmont standout, was a sharpshooter last season, hitting 47% from beyond the arc in 2023–24.

Cade Tyson may have flown under the radar as an unranked prospect in the 2022 recruiting class out of Carmel Christian School in Matthews, NC (per 247Sports), but he built an impressive résumé early on. He was named the 2022 North Carolina Mr. Basketball and surpassed 2,000 points in his high school career—an early sign of his scoring ability.
At Belmont, Tyson made an immediate impact, earning a starting role as a freshman and averaging 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. He elevated his performance even more in his sophomore campaign, boosting his numbers to 16.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. That leap helped him earn recognition as the 34th-best transfer in the 2024 cycle, according to 247Sports.
His departure is another notable loss for UNC, especially given his efficient shooting and proven scoring touch.
