UW Basketball confirm mind-blowing news as another super talent commit to program

Danny Sprinkle scored another major win in the transfer portal as another player announced he’s returning to the Washington Huskies.

Yates had originally committed to Washington out of high school, where he was a top-50 recruit from Beaumont United in Texas. However, he missed his true freshman season due to injury. After head coach Mike Hopkins and his staff — which included Yates’ cousin Quincy Pondexter — were let go, Yates entered the transfer portal.

Both he and Pondexter ended up at USC, where Yates had a breakout season. The 6-foot-4, 219-pound guard posted averages of 14.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game, while shooting an impressive 43.9% from three — a skill highly valued by Sprinkle and his staff during portal recruiting.

Yates becomes the third sharpshooter—each hitting over 40 percent from beyond the arc—to join the Huskies this offseason. He follows SoCon Player of the Year Quimari Peterson from East Tennessee State and Atlantic Sun Player of the Year Jacob Ognacevic from Lipscomb.

Ranked No. 21 in the transfer portal by 247Sports, Yates brings valuable experience to the Huskies’ backcourt and forms a dangerous shooting duo alongside Peterson. When you factor in sophomore Zoom Diallo and incoming four-star recruits JJ Mandaquit and Courtland Muldrew, Danny Sprinkle is assembling a dynamic and talented backcourt. It’s a major step forward as he looks to turn things around following a last-place finish in his Big Ten debut season.
