Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaylen Wells is expected to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a broken right wrist, a concussion, and facial lacerations, the team announced Friday. The injuries occurred during Tuesday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets, following a hard fall.
Wells, considered one of the league’s standout rookies and the Grizzlies’ premier perimeter defender, has been averaging 10.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. The team remains optimistic that he will make a full recovery.
The incident happened in the second quarter when Wells caught an outlet pass from Ja Morant and went up for a dunk. As he rose, Charlotte’s KJ Simpson unintentionally made contact, causing Wells to lose his balance and crash to the court, hitting his head near the baseline.

Medical staff treated Wells on the floor for about eight minutes before he was stretchered off with his head immobilized and transported to the hospital.
