The Houston Astros have acquired minor-league pitcher Patrick Halligan from the Atlanta Braves as the player to be named later in the trade involving reliever Rafael Montero, the team announced on Friday.
Halligan, a 25-year-old right-hander, began the season at the Double-A level. Last year, he recorded a 2.58 ERA over 37 appearances in Double-A and made four appearances in Triple-A. He was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 13th round of the 2021 MLB Draft.
The Astros traded Montero to the Braves on Tuesday, including $7.7 million in cash to offset part of his $11.5 million salary for the season, according to the Associated Press.
