ECU Confirm another Big transfer portal news

The East Carolina women’s basketball team is set to lose one of its standout players from recent years.

Amiya Joyner, a hometown standout from Farmville Central, has officially announced that she’s entering the transfer portal. The forward has spent the past three seasons with the Pirates in Greenville, quickly establishing herself as a dominant scorer and rebounder.

Joyner shared her decision via social media.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for blessing me with the ability and strength to play the game I love,” she wrote. “I wouldn’t be here without His direction. A big thank you to Coach Kim—you’ve been like a second mom to me. Your belief in me, your support, and your guidance have been invaluable. I also appreciate all the other coaches who’ve helped me develop on and off the court.

“To my teammates, I’ll always cherish the memories and the strong bond we’ve created.

“After lots of prayer and heartfelt conversations with my family, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal. It wasn’t an easy choice, but I believe it’s best for my future. I’m grateful for my time here and looking forward to what comes next.”

ECU vs. UNC Charlotte

Joyner finishes her ECU career with 1,202 points (12.8 per game) and 904 rebounds (9.6 per game). She also tallied 132 blocks and 112 steals. This past season, she led the team with 479 points and 295 rebounds, averaging 15.0 points and 9.2 boards per game. Her 2024 season marked a single-season scoring high while appearing in 32 games and starting 23.

From the moment she arrived as a freshman, Joyner made an immediate impact. She scored in double figures 23 times last season and hit the 20-point mark eight times. She posted 15 double-doubles this past season, contributing to a career total of 41.

Joyner also set a program record with 13 games of 15 or more rebounds and became just the second player in school history to record multiple 20-rebound games—joining only Rosie Thomson.

ECU ended the season with a 17-15 record, bowing out in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference tournament after a 69-58 loss to No. 2 seed North Texas. The team had made back-to-back appearances in the conference championship game the two previous seasons, including winning the title and reaching the NCAA tournament at the end of Joyner’s freshman year in 2022-23.
