UConn Announces Exciting News After Geno Auriemma’s 12th National Title

Deadspin | Geno Auriemma signs 5-year extension with UConn

The No. 2 seed UConn Huskies women’s basketball team captured the 2025 NCAA title with a dominant victory over top-seeded South Carolina.

Led by standout performances from Paige Bueckers, Sarah Strong, and Azzi Fudd—who combined for 65 points—UConn cruised to an 82-59 win against the reigning champions.

This triumph marks the 12th national championship for legendary head coach Geno Auriemma.

On their road to the title, the Huskies secured wins against Arkansas State, South Dakota State, Oklahoma, USC, and UCLA—knocking off three No. 1 seeds (UCLA, USC, and South Carolina) in the process.

Now, UConn is celebrating accordingly.

The championship parade is scheduled for Sunday, April 13, starting at 1 p.m. ET in downtown Hartford, Conn.

For the two previous years, the UConn men’s team won the national title, and now it’s the women’s team that gets to celebrate.

The UConn women’s team won four straight titles from 2013 to 2016, so this is the first championship in nearly a decade. The Huskies made the national title game in 2022 but lost to the Gamecocks, so it certainly meant more this time, especially in Bueckers’ final game.

While the Bueckers era comes to an end, UConn can celebrate another national title.
