The first NC State basketball roster under Will Wade is set to include former four-star prep Paul McNeil Jr.
Although bringing in Will Wade is expected to improve the NC State basketball program, one thing the Wolfpack will lack next season is continuity from the previous year.
Most of last year’s NC State roster won’t be returning to Raleigh, but Wade and his staff do have at least one confirmed player who has worn the Wolfpack jersey.
NC State freshman guard confirmed on social media that he will be staying in Raleigh for his sophomore season, putting to rest any rumors about him entering the transfer portal.
As a freshman, McNeil primarily served as a reserve, although his role grew slightly toward the end of the season.

In 24 games, he averaged 4.2 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 8.6 minutes per game.
Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 180 pounds, McNeil showed flashes of potential, especially in his standout performance during NC State’s 85-73 win over Wake Forest in late February. That game saw him start for the first time and set career-highs with 24 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
With his return, McNeil becomes the fourth player to officially confirm his plans to stay at NC State next season, joining transfer additions Alyn Breed and Quadir Copeland, as well as incoming freshman Zymicah Wilkins. Trey Parker is also expected to return, although he has not yet made an official statement.
