As reported by On3’s Joe Tipton, Arizona State forward is planning to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Ali, a former top-100 recruit, spent only one season in Tempe. While many players have entered the portal this offseason, Ali is expected to draw significant attention.

In 32 games last season, Ali started just four times, averaging 5.5 points and 3.1 rebounds in about 19 minutes per game. His best performance came against Texas Tech, where he scored a season-high 18 points. Five of his seven double-digit scoring games were against Big 12 teams.

Ali, a four-star recruit, played high school basketball at Columbus (OH) Canyon International Academy. He was ranked as the No. 72 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, which averages rankings from all four major recruiting services.

Amier Ali to enter transfer portal after one season with Sun Devils

“Amier Ali is a shot-maker; that is to be considered his superpower,” On3’s Jamie Shaw said in a scouting report of Ali. “He plays with the utmost confidence. He is confident in catch-and-shoot situations, with range that extends beyond the three-point arc. He can also knock down a two and three-dribble pull-up in the mid-range. He is an average athlete with average length.

“So he can struggle to get past his man off the bounce in the half-court. This leads to some tough shots and shot selection questions. Also, there are some defensive questions there as well. When the shot is not falling, how is he helping the team? When the shot is falling, however, he can string off a good number of points in a row.”
