UConn Huskies’ head coach Dan Hurley has consistently been a strong advocate for his players.
Liam McNeeley is heading to the NBA, and Hurley is confident that he will achieve significant success at the professional level.
On Tuesday, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony was among several to report that the Big East Freshman of the Year would be declaring for the 2025 NBA Draft. Hurley then took to social media to express his thoughts on his player taking the next step in his career.

“Skills will translate seamlessly to today’s NBA and his character is absolutely elite…work ethic…super competitive…great teammate…wants to be coached…desperately wants to win…confident yet humble. Good Luck my man…it was a pleasure coaching you!,” Hurley wrote on X.
McNeeley arrived at UConn as the ninth-ranked recruit in the nation, according to ESPN’s Top 100. He led the Huskies in scoring with an average of 14.5 points per game and ranked second in rebounding with 6.0 per game. McNeeley played in 27 games, starting 26 of them. He shot 38.1% from the field and 31.7% from beyond the arc, while excelling at the free throw line with an 86.6% shooting percentage.
Standing at 6-foot-7, the forward showcased a versatile skillset, allowing him to score efficiently at all three levels. McNeeley is expected to be a lottery pick in this year’s NBA Draft, and his head coach is confident in his potential for success at the next level.
UConn experienced a second-round exit in this year’s NCAA Tournament, defeating Oklahoma before falling to top-seeded Florida. The Huskies entered the season as back-to-back reigning champions.
While Hurley will retain guard Solo Ball and forward Jaylin Stewart, McNeeley will be moving on to pursue his NBA dreams.
