The transfer portal proved challenging for North Carolina last year, as Hubert Davis and his staff saw player after player opt for other schools. While they did bring in a few transfers, none of them lived up to expectations or made a significant impact. Sadly, it seems like history is repeating itself—some might even call it déjà vu.
Isaac McKneely, one of the Tar Heels’ earliest targets in the portal, has decided to commit to Pat Kelsey and Louisville for next season.
After North Carolina’s exit from the NCAA Tournament and the opening of the transfer portal, Hubert Davis and Jim Tanner were among the first to show interest in McKneely, a guard from Virginia who entered the portal as soon as it became available.

The former Cavalier averaged 14.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game last season, but he was particularly recognized for his exceptional three-point shooting. He finished the year with an impressive 42.1% shooting from beyond the arc and 43.9% from the field overall.
He embodied the type of guard Roy Williams would have pursued—long, skilled in shooting, and solid in decision-making.
