The St. Louis Cardinals have had a strong start to the 2025 Major League Baseball season.
With a 4-2 record, they currently lead the National League Central division. The Cardinals returned to winning form on Wednesday, defeating the Los Angeles Angels 12-5. This early performance has exceeded the expectations of many.
Although it’s just a small sample size with only six games played, the start has been positive. Despite this, ESPN has ranked the Cardinals No. 19 in their current power rankings. Alden Gonzalez also noted that at some point, unless the Cardinals continue winning, third baseman Nolan Arenado might end up “elsewhere.”
Gonzalez commented, “No. 19. St. Louis Cardinals. Record: 4-2. Previous ranking: 25.” He went on to say, “Nolan Arenado spent the entire offseason thinking he was likely going to be traded. Then, he wasn’t. He showed up at Busch Stadium on Opening Day in a Cardinals uniform, hit a home run in the eighth inning, and received a curtain call.”

“Since then, Arenado has looked a lot like the guy who generated MVP votes in 2022, not the one who struggled in the two seasons thereafter, slashing .391/.500/.609 while turning in some solid defensive plays. At some point, he’ll be elsewhere — unless the Cardinals surprise us all and keep on winning.”
