Michigan State Spartans receive unfortunate news from captain Holloman

Less than 36 hours after Holloman was seen in tears in a locker room in Atlanta, reports say the Michigan State basketball captain is set to enter the transfer portal.

Holloman’s agents and the university have confirmed that the junior guard is considering leaving the Spartans following their 30-7 season and run to the Elite Eight. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound player from Minneapolis co-captained the team this season with senior Jaden Akins, who is also departing. ESPN was the first to report the news.

In Michigan State’s season-ending 70-64 loss to Auburn on Sunday, Holloman struggled, scoring only two points and missing all ten of his field goal attempts. However, this performance was an anomaly in an otherwise strong season in which the versatile guard shared point guard duties with redshirt freshman Jeremy Fears Jr. and played alongside Akins and freshman Jase Richardson in the Spartans’ backcourt.

Holloman averaged 9.1 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.9 rebounds, shooting 37.3% from beyond the arc and 85.1% from the free-throw line. He started 16 of Michigan State’s 37 games, coming off the bench after Jase Richardson joined the starting lineup in early February.

His game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer secured a road victory for the Spartans at Maryland and contributed to Tom Izzo’s 11th Big Ten regular-season title, as Michigan State finished with a 17-3 conference record.
