The quarterback for the Missouri Tigers, has entered the NCAA transfer portal, as reported by several media outlets, including On3. A graduate student, he is set to transfer to his fourth school after spending one year at Mizzou. He joined the Tigers as a backup to longtime starting QB Brady Cook and played in six games, making two starts due to an injury to Cook. Pyne is perhaps best remembered for leading Missouri to a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback win against Oklahoma, highlighted by Zion Young’s scoop-and-score fumble return with 22 seconds left to secure the victory. This came just a week after Pyne struggled with three interceptions and only 42 passing yards in a 34-0 loss to Alabama.

“I just can’t say how proud I am of Drew Pyne,” head coach Eli Drinkwitz said following the Oklahoma win. “I feel like I’m up here all the time having to defend my quarterback, which is not great. But for all the crap that he’s taken on Twitter and X, and to come out here and ignore the noise … he goes out there and delivers in the (biggest) moments in the fourth quarter after fans have been booing. He just goes out there and delivers.”
Drew Pyne leaves Missouri with 391 passing yards and three touchdowns. This spring, he was expected to compete in a three-way battle for the starting quarterback position, alongside Sam Horn, who was returning from Tommy John surgery, and Penn State transfer Beau Pribula. Pyne, a former four-star recruit from New Canaan, Connecticut, began his career at Notre Dame, where he was named the starting quarterback in 2022 after Tyler Buchner, the original starter, suffered a season-ending injury in the second game. Pyne went 8-2 as a starter for the Fighting Irish but entered the transfer portal after the season and did not play in Notre Dame’s Gator Bowl victory. He then transferred to Arizona State for the 2023 season but appeared in only two games before returning to Notre Dame to complete his degree. After graduation, he transferred to Missouri to pursue his MBA.
