NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman “confirmed that the Utah Hockey Club will host an outdoor game in the future,” as reported by Cole Bagley of KSLSPORTS.com. Bettman made a “special guest appearance” on Thursday alongside broadcasters Tyson Nash and Austin Facer, as well as Utah HC owner Ryan Smith, during a special broadcast of NashCast on SEG+ during the club’s game against the Sabres. Bettman stated, “An outdoor game is in Utah’s future.

Utah is going to get an outdoor game, and it’s going to be great because I know the community’s reaction will be one of the best we’ve ever seen.” Bettman also mentioned that the NHL has “sent representatives to Rice Eccles Stadium to scout the venue.” However, Bagley pointed out that “no official date for the event has been confirmed.” The outdoor game in Utah “would most likely be a Stadium Series, not a Winter Classic,” based on “other recent discussions involving” Bettman and EVP & Chief Content Officer Steve Mayer (KSLSPORTS.com, 3/21).
