The Las Vegas Raiders have undergone a major overhaul this offseason. After a disappointing 2024 season that led to the dismissal of head coach Antonio Pierce and GM Tom Telesco, the team has entered a new era of leadership. They appointed Pete Carroll as head coach and John Spytek as general manager, signaling a fresh direction for the franchise.
Carroll and Spytek quickly began reshaping the roster. One key move was trading for quarterback Geno Smith from the Seattle Seahawks, addressing a critical need and freeing up their first-round pick for the 2025 NFL Draft. Additionally, the Raiders strengthened their offense by adding guard Alex Cappa and running back Raheem Mostert, while bolstering their defense with players such as Eric Stokes, Jeremy Chinn, and Elandon Roberts.
Despite these additions, the Raiders’ offense still requires improvement. A trade proposed by Ben Strauss of Clutch Points could provide a significant boost to their offensive strength.
Proposed Trade Reunites Pete Carroll and Kenneth Walker with Las Vegas Raiders
A potential trade between the Raiders and Seahawks could unfold as follows:
Raiders Receive: RB Kenneth Walker III and a 2025 fifth-round compensatory pick.
Seahawks Receive: TE Michael Mayer and a 2025 fourth-round pick.
This trade could benefit both teams.
For the Raiders, acquiring Kenneth Walker III would be a major upgrade to their running back group. Currently, Mostert is their leading back, underscoring the position’s need for improvement. Walker III would be a valuable asset, whether as a starter or as a complement to another potential first-round pick, such as Ashton Jeanty.
The Seahawks may be inclined to trade Walker III for several reasons. His production has decreased since his standout 2022 season, and he now shares the backfield with Zach Charbonnet. With Walker III entering the final year of his rookie contract, the Seahawks might want to capitalize on his trade value. They would also benefit from adding Michael Mayer, addressing their long-term need at tight end.
While concerns about Walker III’s recent performance may arise, he would still be a significant asset to the Raiders. Even in a rotational role, he would improve their depth at running back. His existing chemistry with Geno Smith and familiarity with Pete Carroll’s offensive system would also be valuable. Las Vegas should actively pursue this trade with Seattle.
