Iowa Hawkeyes receive unexpected news that leaves fans devastated

Iowa men’s basketball is still dealing with the aftermath of Fran McCaffery’s exit and the unsuccessful attempt to hire Darian DeVries as the new head coach. Last night, another player joined the transfer portal, marking the latest development in the ongoing situation.

The talented player was a highly regarded recruit in the class of 2024, earning a 4-star rating from 247Sports. He also had offers from schools like Illinois, Purdue, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Wake Forest, among others. Notably, he is the son of former Iowa center J.R. Koch, who played for the Hawks from 1995-1998.

He played 13.6 minutes across ten games and recorded 21 rebounds, eight assists, and 46 points, he was expected to be a key piece for future seasons.

Iowa basketball: Cooper Koch enters transfer portal, keeping option open

Cooper now becomes the sixth player to enter the transfer portal, following Owen Freeman, Brock Harding, Pryce Sandfort, Riley Mulvey, and Josh Dix. Beth Goetz will need to act quickly to secure a future coach and try to stop the wave of transfers, or possibly bring back some former players. As March Madness intensifies, the situation should become clearer soon.

Wishing Cooper the best of luck in his next chapter.
