Pittsburgh Steelers star is making a return to the AFC by signing a one-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, as reported by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.
After going undrafted out of Florida, Johnson played the 2019 season with the Steelers. He spent only one year in Pittsburgh before being claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Bengals, becoming part of the Steelers’ AFC North rival. Johnson played three seasons in Cincinnati, appearing in 23 games and making eight starts.
Johnson spent the following season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, appearing in five games. He was later signed to the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad, where he played a key role in helping the team reach the Super Bowl twice and has been with them for the past three seasons.
Since joining the Eagles in 2022, Johnson has played in all 17 games during the last two seasons. He started six games last year, contributing to the team’s Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVI.
Now, Johnson heads to Jacksonville, where the Jaguars are working to revamp their offensive line. With Trevor Lawrence aiming for a breakout year and a new head coach in Liam Coen, Jacksonville’s offense is hoping for significant improvement.
At 27 years old, Johnson will look to become a part of that offensive line overhaul and compete for playing time with the Jaguars.
